The Pirate Party primaries for the 2022 local elections

Local elections will take place on Saturday 14 May 2022. Primary elections for Pirate candidates for the 2022 municipal elections in Reykjavík and Kópavogur will take place between 19-26. February. Primary elections for Pirate candidates in Akureyri and Hafnarfjörður will take place between 5-12. March.

Important dates for Reykjavík and Kópavogur

  • The deadline to run is on February 15. at 3pm
  • Voting begins February 19. at 3 pm
  • The election ends on February 26. at 3pm
  • The deadline to register to vote in the primaries is at midnight on January 27th!

In order to have the right to vote in the primary election, you must have been registered as a party member* for at least 30 days before the end of the election!

Candidate events (with statements and questions) will be streamed from Wednesday to Friday 16-18. February. The events will take place online on The Pirates’ video conferencing platform and will be streamed on piratar.tv

Important dates for Akureyri and Hafnarfjörður

  • The deadline to run is on March 1. at 3pm
  • Voting begins March 5. at 3pm
  • The election ends on March 12. at 3pm
  • The deadline to register to vote in the primaries is at midnight on February 10th.

Other municipalities

All those who are interested becoming a Pirate Party candidate this spring are encouraged to run in the Primary. Emphasis is placed on a diverse list that represents the true spirit of the movement.

Other municipalities will start their primary elections in the upcoming weeks. The Pirate party will run in several local elections around the country.
